MASSAGE

Every day I hear this word: in the subway or tram, when I watch TV. It is a part of our lives, at least theoretically. However, how many of us had “tasted” its benefits? More concrete: “did you give or somebody ever give you a massage? Did you have the opportunity to sleep better after a massage? Were you calmer, more compassionate and more generous with others the next day? Did you notice that this is all because of the massage?

Many people smile when they hear about the massage.

They know! They are ironic and superiors. However, they never found out how it is. Others say “ bullshit !” Is it? Alternatively, is it a form of communication, a way to forget the problems, a way to recover ourselves, physically and psychologically, after we keep submit to exaggerations and a lot of stress? In the following, without trying to convince you to something, we will present the main exercises of massage and their effects.

At the beginning, the massage was a sequence of these movements, according to the intuition of the person who was applying them. These days, these exercises apply in a certain order, after grounded criteria, according to the anatomically and physiologically specific nature of the massed region.

EFLEURAGE

Effleurage (skin passing or caressing) is the first and the last exercise used in massage. It is perform using long and firm slides of hands (the palm, the fingertips), easily and slowly at the beginning and deeply when the exercise goes at the end.

The easy reiterative movements apply for tranquilizing and calming the nervous system, the vessels dilate and the subject is ready for the next exercise.

The slowly profound exercises accelerate the restoration of the blood circulation, increase the lymph, and activate the evacuation and resorbence of the depletions produced by the intense muscular stress.

FRICTIONS

The frictions address to more profound tissues under the skin. There are massage' methods performed with the fingertips, with the palms or the fist, using circular profound and firms movements to the skin, acting to the profound tissues or to the osseous areas.

These exercises mobilize the skin and soft tissues under the skin to the limit of the natural tension of them. When they are made to a large areas, these exercise are applied using ample deliberate and long movements, achieving a remission of the general tautness and having good results in reducing the over fat from the adipose layer.

When the exercises apply to the little or very little regions, the gestures are short but forceful, in order to stimulate the nervous system, to reduce the contractions and to decrease the local sensibility. The friction is useful as much working on the fleshiness part of the muscle as applying to the aponevrotice formation, tendons, tecilortendinoase , muscular insertions on the bones, and the transition from tendon to muscle, along the tendons, making a linear friction; at the insertion points, the friction will be circular.

KNEADING

The kneading, the basic procedure of the muscular massage it is applying in circle or bracelet and sinuous movements (along the members) but especially in ply (on the plane regions). Using the kneading, we influence the physiological properties of the muscles and we do a press out of them, which helps the vessels to drain and to fill with blood, activating the local circulation and the energetic essences exchange. The kneading does not apply to the fibrous formations, to the fasces or tendons.

TAPOTEMENT (the beating )

Tapotement applies especially to stimulation of the nerves' tracks, which, because of the response reaction to an external stimulation, are sending the nervous impulse through all the organs circulated through these tracks. The result is the stimulation in cascade of all the tracks, all the fluids that are passing the body and the whole organism.

From all of tapotement procedures, the recommendable ones are easy percussions (made with the fingertip), the chop (easy, with the palm) and the sliding smack at the surface of the skin. These exercises have a powerful influence upon the sensitive, motor and specific nervous terminations, marked by a long local heat and a sustained rube faction of the skin.

The rhythmical strokes (the chop, the battered with a low, medium or high intensity) apply to the sensible zones or even to the track of the large nerves (covered by soft and protective tissues, like edge bone region and along the large sciatic nerve).

These exercises have to be made only in the middle of the back, to the Para vertebral muscles, without going lower than the diaphragm. The right hand is beating the right side of the body and the left hand is beating the left side, hitting the back in a rhythmic way, adjusting the intensity according to the constitution and the problems of the body that receives massage.

VIBRATIONS

The vibrations of the skin are used as independent ways of massage or they are associated with the skin passing, the friction and the pressures. They are performed manually or mechanical. They are heating up the skin and they are decreasing its sensibility. They are producing a specific numbness sensation.

The vibrations, associated with other exercises are producing calming and relaxant effects. The vibrations (manual or mechanical), applied to the nerves for some time, decrease their sensibility and conductibility. Repeating methodically these exercises, they will activate the circulation in the case of the nerve, increasing the nutrition and stimulating its functional activity. The effects of the vibrations depend on the amplitude, the pressure and the duration of these exercises. The vibrations are tolerated well. Sometimes, they are the only admissible maneuvers in treating some nerves' affections.

VORTEX

The vortex is an original powerful exercise, which applies, in the first part, with the edge of the palms situated face to face, a distance of 3-5 cm between them. The right hand presses the working surface and it rotates counterclockwise while pressures, like we want to gather something, and the left hand draws back. The operation continues with the left hand in the clockwise motion, while the right hand draws back. This exercise is smooth and easily at the beginning and the pressure increases when we realize the maximum pressure force that the subject can handle. This will not be overstepping or else unnecessary damage or inflammation can be induced.
